I heard that 4 large cranes were working near each other in Germany near Trier. I decided to go here, a 900km journey. The first crane I put on picture was this LG 1750 from Grohmann.
The crane was here to build a windmill.
This was the first time I saw a LG 1750 in real. At first sight this crane is truly impressing!
The crane was fitted with 220 tons counterweight (16 x 12.5t and 2 x 10t).
This counterweight is mostly used to raise the boom. The superstructure is almost identical to the one of a LR 1750. The smart people at Liebherr thought if they placed the counterweight further backwards the same boomlength can be raised with less counterweight and thus it's cheaper in transport. You can see the difference clearly in the picture above. This system can be used on the LG 1750 aswell on the LR 1750.
For the crane to be able to drive on the road the superstructure have to be taken of, the transport weight comes to a total of 96 ton.
The superstructure is transported with this nice Titan.
A good view at one of the outriggers.
The rearend of the crane is fitted with steps for easy access.
Helping crane was this LTM 1160/2 from ATS (Steil).
Unfortunately the crane wasn't placed very well for picture I did manage to get a decent shot of the entire crane.
