In springtime 2005 the third PTC (Platform Twinring Containarised) from Mammoet was tested in Schiedam at the Huisman-Itrec yard.
During the testing period I made serveral trips to Schiedam to take many pictures from the other side of the harbor. The picture above shows the crane just after the boom was raised for the first time.
I also saw the crane make its first rotation, takes about 5 min for a complete rotation. While I took these pictures there was a party to celebrate the birth of PTC 3.
After the party the real work had to begin, time to test the 1.600 capacity crane. First this configuration was tested.
After the crane completed the testlifts it was refitted with a longer mainboom.
After the mainboom lifts the real spectacular work could begin, with the jib. Here it was fitted with aproxematly 200m boom/jib! It could be well seen from a large distance.
The last configuration which has been tested was with a short fly-jib which gives an real strong impression. In meanwhile the crew was also busy making containers from the boompieces which weren't used anymore.
To close a picture of this impressive configuration with some test-weights. A fun fact: There is 2 ton of red paint used to paint the PTC.
Some weeks later this crane was shipped to Brazil where it succesfully carried out its first job.
